Inpatient Programs

Most behavioral health illnesses do not require a lengthy hospitalization

Long gone are the days of lengthy hospitalizations to treat behavioral health illnesses. With new medications and treatment approaches, patients can now safely move to outpatient care more quickly, returning to work or school, family life or other community activities.

In our adult program, patients typically stay 5 -10 days. Treatment is based on stabilizing thoughts, feelings and behaviors. The goal of the inpatient program is to help patients get well enough to return home while care is continued in our outpatient programs.

Located in the Behavioral Health Science Center at our Muhlenberg campus, the Adult Center is a 52-bed facility offering a full range of services. Care is provided by a team of psychiatric nurses, licensed social workers, nurse practitioners, rehabilitation specialists, a medical doctor and other mental health professionals, all led by a board-certified psychiatrist. Individual, group and family sessions, with a clear focus on education and support, will help you begin putting your life back on track.

Treatment is focused on stabilization so care can be safely and effectively provided in an outpatient setting as soon as possible. You’ll receive customized treatment plans, relating to the specific issues that need to be addressed to help you out of the crisis situation. Discharge planning and arrangement for outpatient support services are a major focus and begin immediately upon admission.

As with all Lehigh Valley Health Network programs, confidentiality is fully respected. You’ll be provided with a safe haven where you can begin to identify your strengths and learn new skills to better cope with your illness. You’ll appreciate our expertise, and be comforted by our compassion.

Families are an important component of treatment. With your permission, your family members will be fully involved in learning about your illness and how they can help you recover. Visiting hours are provided from 6-8 p.m., seven days a week. Additional hours are available on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 p.m..

To schedule an appointment with a behavioral health specialist at Lehigh Valley Health Network, call 610-402-CARE.
